Shamanth Kumar – Founder
Shamanth Kumar began his journey as a professional surfer and stand-up paddler under the guidance of the Surfing Swami, Jack Hebner. As co-founder of India’s first surf club, Mantra Surf Club, he has been instrumental in developing and advancing surfing and stand-up paddling in India.
With over two decades of coaching experience, he is an ISA-certified Master Trainer for Surf and SUP instructors, and a Life Saving Trainer through ILSF. He has judged at international competitions, including the Asian Surfing Championships and the World Surf League, and serves on the national judging panel for the Surfing Federation of India.
His work extends beyond training into shaping coastal safety and tourism. He is the official safety consultant for the Blue Flag Beach in Dakshin Kannada district, advises on beach tourism initiatives, and serves as Secretary of the Karnataka Surfing Association.
Guided by the principles of the Surfing Swami, Shamanth believes in the philosophy of “Give to Live,” with spirituality remaining a strong influence in his life. His work continues to be rooted in discipline, responsibility, and a deep respect for the ocean.
Sahana Inamdar – Co-Founder
Sahana Inamdar brings strategy, structure, and her strong business acumen to SaltLife Academy.
With a Master’s in International Business and years of experience in Tech, Sahana leads the academy’s digital presence while bringing organisational clarity and long-term thinking. Working at the intersection of client strategy and customer success in tech, she understands what it takes to build something that lasts.
Her connection to Salt Life Academy runs deeper than her professional background. As a surfer and open water swimmer who has spent years living within the ocean and surf
community, Sahana recognises the need of the hour for the Indian Ocean sports industry – better access to global certifications, clear progression routes and visibility for those genuinely looking to build a career in this space. She brings operational rigour to the bigger picture, ensuring the academy grows with intention and evolves in step with global standards.
Off the water, Sahana is a certified yoga instructor and a qualified mental health counsellor who advocates fiercely for both human and animal wellbeing and is constitutionally incapable of walking past a dog without stopping to say hello.
In her downtime, you’ll find her with her dog, lost in a good book, or turning ocean waste into something worth keeping.
